Supervises recreation personnel; coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. Plans and implements a calendar of programs that help participants maintain a high level of interaction, mobility, and independence through social activities, physical movement, mental stimulation, and opportunities for community engagement. - Develops and implements a variety of wellness activities, including educational resources and awareness/skill building seminars, such as arthritis management, nutrition, understanding medications, home safety, navigating health and other services, etc.
- Plans social engagement and community enrichment activities, including trips/outings and special events that allow family, friends and the community to interact with participants.
- Ensures programs meet safety and development standards. Sources may include but are not limited to Department of Aging and Community Living, Medicaid, Veteran’s Affairs, Department of Disability Services, etc.
- Seeks and manages special purpose grants that fund programs and supplemental services, including the congregate meals program.
- Coordinates/ensures availability of transportation services as needed.
- Develops, recruits and manages a Senior Volunteer Corps program that provides opportunities for seniors to volunteer on various projects and community initiatives.
- Partners with outside organizations to increase the number of services and opportunities available to program participants.
- Markets programs to the public; plans and implements strategies to maintain existing and recruit new participants and achieve participation goals.
- Performs needs assessments and regularly evaluates programs for effectiveness; plans and ensures regular feedback from participants on the quality of programs and services; reports deficiencies and recommends improvements.
- Manages program budgets, adheres to procurement policies and guidelines, and assists with annual budget preparation.
- Leads complex, multi-faceted projects with high public visibility or involvement by multiple parties.
- Prepares and provides public presentations for internal and external audiences.
- Participates and supports department programs, priorities, planning efforts and other projects as assigned. Develops guidelines, procedures and work standards.
- Performs research and information-gathering responsibilities; completes statistical and other program reports. Prepares and maintains records, participant databases, attendance and other reports.
- Monitors facility conditions, including care of program and office spaces, proper use and storage of equipment and supplies to increase longevity of City resources.
- Instills and personally maintains the highest level of professionalism, respect, and customer service among program participants, staff, colleagues and the public.
- Occasionally works a varied schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
