The Park Ranger II is responsible for visitor management and safety, resource management, park operations, facility management, and law enforcement in City parks, recreation, and watershed properties. Day to day this position is never the same! You could be opening and closing the parks, managing concession operations, depositing revenues from park facilities or events, renting recreational equipment or campsites, or patrolling various City parks and watershed facilities to ensure compliance with laws and regulations for the safety of users, and integrity of City resources and property. Research, development, and implementation of educational programs and media for park visitors is an important job duty of our Park Rangers!
Safety is our top priority for employees and citizens, so this position will need to develop and implement programs to manage, protect, and conserve park plants and wildlife, historical resources, and assist with wildlife as needed. Our Park Rangers also provide emergency care and rehabilitation for injured or ill wildlife – how cool is that?
In some instances, park buildings, trails, and facilities may need minor repairs or clearing. Park Rangers will coordinate the necessary supplies and materials to clear trails, check and repair minor electrical and plumbing problems, and ensure vehicles and equipment are kept in proper working condition.

How much money can I make?
The salary range for this position is $36k-$67k, and is competitive based on level of Ranger, qualifications and experience. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!

What are the qualifications for this position?
Park Ranger I – Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Park Administration, Forestry, Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, Civil War History or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in wildlife or resource management, park/facility operations, educational programming or historical interpretation and experience working with the public preferred. Must meet eligibility and performance requirements for promotion to Park Ranger II within 2 years of employment.
Park Ranger II - Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Park Administration, Forestry, Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, Civil War History or a related field and 1-2 years of experience as a Park Ranger, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and in search and rescue training as a Field Team Member (FTM) will be required for this level of Ranger.
The City also requires a successful background check to include a local, state and federal criminal history check; sex offender registry. A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will also be required. This position will require the selected candidate to be 21 years of age at the time of employment.
