The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion/Organizational Effectiveness (SADDEI) reports directly to the Director of Athletics and will serve as a member of the Leadership Team. This position will provide leadership through promoting and fostering a community that outwardly respects differences, actively embraces inclusivity, and prioritizes equity and access for all stakeholders within Maryland Athletics regardless of differences by protected class or differences broadly identified. This position will establish organizational effectiveness practices that build capacity, enhance alignment, transform experiences, and reflect Maryland Athletics’ commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As the department’s Diversity Officer, this position will lead the implementation of strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies as well as learning initiatives across ICA. The SADDEI will actively work with and engage staff, coaches, student-athletes and external constituents regarding DEI education, supporting dialogue, and building relationships. In addition, SADDEI will oversee Human Resources and influence effective practices for the recruitment and retention of staff and coaches such as attracting highly talented, broad and diverse candidate pools when hiring open positions; enhancing the on-boarding process; and providing resources that help staff and students acclimate to the University and local communities. This position will lead efforts to increase diverse representation of ICA coaches, staff and administrators to reflect the growing diversity of the student body and scholar-athlete community. Furthermore, this role will direct and administer organizational effectiveness practices that build diversity, equity and inclusion intelligence and embed practices among individuals, groups and the department.

Master’s degree and 5-7 years of demonstrated leadership experience in developing initiatives and programs in equity, diversity and inclusion which includes evidence of strategic agility. Proven track record of facilitating conversations and mediating diverse opinions to address shared needs and concerns. Experience responding to events that warrant a high level of understanding and appropriate reaction to issues associated with equity, diversity and inclusion in academia. Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion framework and best practices. • Demonstrated expertise in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. • Demonstrated problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgement and decision-making skills. • Excellent communication skills including writing, editing, and speaking/facilitating. • Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills. • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills. • Time and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and work with deadlines. • Ability to be proactive and keep abreast with best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion and any changes in relevant legislation. • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact while maintaining strict confidentiality. • Ability to travel as needed to attend meetings on and off campus as well as out-of-state events, etc. The scope of the position will require evening and weekend work (Non-standard work hours).
Higher Education experience preferred. Working knowledge of nondiscrimination laws and compliance regulation as it pertains to Civil Rights Act, Title IX, Higher Education laws, Americans with Disabilities Act, Affirmative Action, and EEO preferred.
