Under the supervision of the Public Engagement Department, works with Public Engagement & Education Program Coordinators to carry out the department’s goals. Employee shall assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing diverse public education and recreation programming in the parks and other settings, alone or with the assistance of other staff, volunteers and partners.
Possession of a valid Ohio driver license, insurable by the Park District’s insurance carrier and ability to conform to the driving standards policy as approved by the Board of Park Commissioners.
Two or four-year college degree and experience working in the fields of education, biology, geography, conservation, parks and recreation or related fields is preferred. Experience working as a naturalist or educator for a public agency or nonprofit is preferred. Experience working in outreach and with volunteers is preferred.
The Portage Park District is an independent political subdivision of the State of Ohio formed in 1991 with its jurisdiction covering all of Portage County. Although it is independent of County government, the Park District utilizes the services of the Portage County Auditor, Treasurer and Prosecutor. It is governed by an unpaid, five-member Board of Park Commissioners appointed by Portage County Probate Judge according to Ohio Revised Code Section 1545.
