Position Description Seattle University is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit institution adjacent to downtown Seattle, and is seeking a dynamic and proven athletics department professional to serve as its Associate Athletic Director for Development.

The university's athletic program fields 20 Division I intercollegiate teams (9 men's and 11 women's) and is comprised of more than 350 student athletes. The Redhawks, Seattle University's athletic teams, compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in all sports and have an excellent track record of achievement both on the field and court and in the classroom.
This position oversees the athletics fundraising and corporate partnership program. Reporting directly to and working with the Director of Athletics, the Associate Athletic Director for Development will organize and direct all fundraising activities within the Department of Athletics, develop the strategic plan for the fundraising program, manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, oversee all departmental fundraising events and represent the Athletics Department at University and community events.
This position is responsible for raising gifts to support the mission, vision and priorities of Seattle U Athletics. It is responsible for the overall administration, management and supervision of athletic development and fundraising efforts and athletics fundraising personnel. This position is a member of the Athletic Director's senior staff and works closely with the Athletic Director.
Serve as the chief athletic development officer with responsibilities for vision, strategy, and personnel management for the athletic development unit.
Solicit and close major gifts, with a primary focus on increasing both dollars and donors to the athletics program. Working within the SU prospect management development system, develop, cultivate and maintain a pool of at least 75-100 major athletics donor prospects. Generate strategies for the development unit for cultivating and soliciting major donor prospects and refining plans to match donors' needs and desires. Actively engage in prospect research (both micro and macro).
Works closely with the Associate Athletics Director of Facilities & Events to solicit gifts for capital projects within the Athletics & University Recreation Facility Master Plan. Supervise all planned giving and endowment activities for the athletic department.
Create templates for proposals and campaign pieces.
Meet annual goals as established by the Athletic Director in collaboration with the Vice President for Advancement.
Manage the athletic development budget in a manner consistent with departmental and University policies and practices.
Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director for Ticketing & Development, Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications by coordinating fundraising and sponsorship efforts. Supervise the Assistant Athletic Director for Annual Fund and Assistant Director for Athletics for Development.
Assist in building an understanding of the University's vision and strategic plan with key constituencies.
Participate in all required university fundraising and advancement protocols including such activities as organizational meetings, retreats, annual planning, goals setting and reporting.
Work with both athletic and University Advancement staff to ensure all athletic development activities are coordinated with the larger University campaign.
Maintain current best practices for athletic development, and have a visionary approach to creating campaigns, mini-campaigns, micro-philanthropy, social media, and stewardship activities. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study with five years of progressively responsible experience in athletic development with a preference for major gift experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in development.
Leadership experience managing a development, external operations or sales professionals unit in NCAA Division I Athletics.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including excellent writing and editing skills.
Persistence and resourcefulness in developing and executing solicitation strategies and closing gifts/sales.
Strong organizational skills with proven ability to work well under pressure and to handle multiple prospects and requests concurrently, while meeting multiple deadlines.
Ability to foster positive interpersonal relationships and professional image with external and internal constituencies.
Ability to use fundraising software systems and to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
A successful candidate must have a working knowledge of or the ability to learn and possess a commitment to NCAA Division I rules and guidelines, as well as a demonstrated willingness to support and engage diversity and gender equity and an understanding of a commitment to Jesuit Catholic ideals.
