Great Parks of Hamilton County is currently seeking a Chief of Conservation and Parks to provide leadership to the Conservation and Parks division. This division includes Conservation and Parks, Natural Resources and related facilities and programs. They will be responsible for planning, developing, administering and achieving division goals and objectives, and providing leadership and coordination of work and services in accordance with Great Parks’ master plan, strategic plan, policies and requirements.

Directs and provides leadership to the Conservation and Parks division operations and staff; Plans and implements division and agency objectives and goals, and ensures natural assets, built assets and services meet quality and regulatory standards; Directs the development and implementation of projects and activities, and coordinates with other divisions and departments; evaluates organizational function and alignment to assure effective and efficient execution of division and agency priorities.
Serves as a member of the Leadership Team and Crisis Communication Team; Participates in executive level meetings including Board meetings; Participates and assists with facilitating various staff meetings
Leads the development and implementation of acceptable standards of practice that meet or exceed industry standards for all areas of the division
Revises existing policies and procedures, develops and implements new policies and procedures, and monitors Great Parks’ by-laws related to the responsibilities of the division to ensure Great Parks is in full compliance with federal, state and local laws
Responsible for staff administering agency environmental regulatory requirements, conservation, and environmental restoration. Responsible for prioritizing conservation value in evaluating land acquisition opportunities; assures compliance with agency conservation values and
Advocates high standards for customer service; Places importance on quality service and positive guest experiences
Maintains effective communication with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, Chief Ranger and Director of Marketing & Public Engagement regarding critical incidents and public safety issues
Manages various employee levels and makes major personnel decisions in consultation with Human Resources; Delegates job responsibilities, maintains effective organizational communications, and consistently follows sound management principles and practices; Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Great Parks’ policies and applicable laws; Plans, directs and evaluates performance of direct reports; Establishes priorities, performance requirements and professional development goals that align with Great Parks’ goals, objectives and initiatives; Regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvements and development; Responsible for hiring, compensation and other rewards to recognize performance; Responsible for administering disciplinary action up to and including termination in consultation with Human Resources
Prepares and presents the division budget to the Budget Committee; Manages and approves division expenditures within the approved budget
Prepares division and districtwide reports for the Board, staff and public; Makes formal presentations and speaks before groups and the general public relating to Great Parks’ strategies and division related topics; represents the agency at meetings and on professional organizations, committees and boards
Oversees the coordination of staff training and professional development in accordance with state certification requirements and division goals
Serves on regional and statewide committees and boards, and participates in outside organizations to represent Great Parks and to keep informed of developments and trends in the parks and recreation field
Performs job duties in accordance with Great Parks of Hamilton County’s policies, procedures, and performance expectations
Maintains confidentiality of confidential and sensitive information
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works outside of normal schedule as required
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management, natural resources management or related field and more than ten years’ experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of parks, recreation and natural resources management and leadership.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
License Of Certification Requirements
State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines.
The salary is negotiable based on experience. The salary range is $80,783-$121,173/yr.
