GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under general direction, perform work of considerable difficulty in planning, organizing, directing, and managing the activities of the Parks Division of the Department of Parks & Recreation to include overseeing grounds maintenance operations for county parks, schools, and other designated county facilities; assist with the management of overall department operations; may serve as Director during the department Director's absence; and perform other work as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of parks management and maintenance and of sports field maintenance; of occupational hazards and safety precautions, rules and regulations applicable to parks maintenance and construction work; of methods, materials, terminology, and tools and equipment associated with parks and recreation facilities construction, repair and maintenance. Ability to analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound decisions and recommendations; to interpret work from sketches, blueprints, and maps; to prepare and review construction plans and specifications; to coordinate program activities and projects with other programs, projects and contractors; to use tools and equipment associated with parks and recreation facilities construction, repair and maintenance; to develop, monitor and control a budget; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to establish effective working relationships with both staff and the public; to utilize a personal computer and other standard office equipment; to supervise, train, and evaluate the work of management, supervisory, professional, and other staff. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in parks management, landscape management, horticulture, or related field; six years of progressively responsible experience in parks management, public greenspace, large scale landscape/facilities or related operations experience, including two years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. CPRP (Certified Park and Recreation Professional) or CPRE (Certified Park and Recreation Executive) preferred. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation within the preceding thirty-six months.
