SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Coordinator – Aquatics Specialist will plan, organize and coordinate community aquatic recreation events, including holiday, camps, lessons and recreational programming with a focus on Aquatic Recreation. Assist fellow Recreation Coordinators in ensuring Parks and Recreation Department job tasks are completed, as directed. The City of Valdez has just completed a $4 million dollar renovation of the aquatic center with fantastic new attractions and a complete pool renovation.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Keeping the aquatic facility and its assets in clean, well maintained working order
Develops and implements Special Events.
Coordinates, develops and implements a variety of Aquatic programs at multiple venues.
Coordinates special interest classes, rentals and facility usage
Works cooperatively with the Valdez School district to provide a safe venue for classes and visitors.
Works cooperatively with fellow Recreation Activities Coordinators to provide community special events.
Oversight of aquatic programs in cooperation with fellow Recreation Activities Coordinators.
General oversight of scheduled activities related to Aquatics facilities to include but not limited to: Valdez City School Pools
Program sites within the parks which host an aquatic element
Must have current and maintain all appropriate and required certifications for the full oversight of an aquatic venue to include but not limited to: Current Lifeguard Instructor, Current Swim Instructor Trainer, Current CPR, 1st aid, AED Instructor
Must maintain any other required certifications as set for the facility’s risk management protocol (Currently Ellis and Associates) and or the City of Valdez Parks Dept.
Must perform the following tasks to ensure continued operations of aquatic facilities:
Instruct all necessary classes to ensure there is an appropriate number of trained and available aquatic staff.
Scheduling and coordinating activities.
Recruiting and training staff.
Monitoring daily activities.
Lifeguard duties as required.
Custodial duties as required.
Plan and organize facility programs.
Responsible for helping perform program registration and facility reservations and rentals.
Respond to public inquiries about the Parks and Recreation Department events and programs by telephone, correspondence, or public meetings.
Assists in preparing for publication; a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, social media and related communication regarding Parks and Recreation Department events and programs.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, operating fax and copy machines, typing correspondence, running errands, arranging supplies needed for activities, helping set-up and take down of events, etc.
Prepares annual budget for staffing and operations to meet the needs of assigned programs and venues.
Monitors budget and approves purchases for assigned programs and venues.
Responsible for subordinates scheduling, timecard input, and scheduled leave.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, or related field and two (2) years Parks and Recreation program experience or related public sector program management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two (2) year minimum background working in aquatic recreation and recreation programming.
An understanding of the role of OSHA, ADA, and DEC in the area of recreation.
One (1) year experience in budgeting and revenue generation.
