Join a top-notch team at Chesterfield County Parks & Recreation! The incumbent in this position manages the department’s 50+ Active Lifestyles division (recreation for individuals aged 50 and above) and Stonebridge Recreation Center. Plan, develop, organize and implement recreation programs for 50+ Active Lifestyles to include classes, workshops, programs, trips and numerous countywide special events. Provide long range planning to determine the direction and growth of 50+ Active Lifestyles and Stonebridge Recreation Center. Serve in leadership roles in various committees throughout the county. Supervise and train fulltime and part-time staff and volunteers. Collaborate with Public Affairs to effectively promote programs to include news releases, flyers and postings on social media. Initiate the creation, development and distribution of our own 50+ Active Lifestyles brochure which is published three times each year. Monitor website to ensure 50+ Active Lifestyles and Stonebridge Recreation Center contains the most recent data. Maintain strong customer relationships with county departments, community groups, businesses, churches and other event organizers. Coordinate with other Parks and Recreation divisions, county departments, municipalities, outside agencies and partners as appropriate. Budget development and management. Public speaking to promote 50+ Active Lifestyles programming.
Bachelor's degree in recreation, or related/equivalent field with a minimum of three years of related experience including one year serving in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of public recreation; principles and practices of recreation program planning for the 50+ community and experience working with diverse populations; knowledge of special event coordination and media relations; strong customer service skills; ability to work independently and/or collaboratively with others; critical thinking skills with the ability to problem solve and make sound decisions; ability to present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; project management skills; ability to develop and initiate marketing strategies focused on the 50+ community.
Knowledge of recreation center facility operations and maintenance. Ability to design, develop and implement programs; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds; and ability to supervise staff. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment. Possess the ability to direct the work of multiple staff and to coordinate the activities of large numbers of event participants.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sponsorships and partnerships with various organizations and county businesses that support 50+ community programs. Flexibility to work varied schedule is required (some evenings, weekends and holidays).
