This job is located in the Recreation Division of the Parks and Recreation Department with The City of Oklahoma City. The Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing recreational and life skills programming in response to community needs at various community centers and program sites located throughout The City of Oklahoma City. The Recreation Program Coordinator works closely with program participants, citizens, government agencies, civic organizations, etc. in support of individual facilities and overall operations functions. Essential job functions include: traveling locally recruiting volunteers or contract instructors; conducting follow-up orientation and training sessions; supervising staff involved in offering program activities; preparing and developing the assigned activities' budget; evaluating and assessing current program effectiveness or planned program feasibility following assessing community needs; developing program content; and promoting local community participation and support. Additionally, the Recreation Program Coordinator assumes administrative and supervisory responsibilities in the absence of facility supervisors and plans or coordinates events or field trips. The Recreation Program Coordinator may work in conjunction with or provide support to administrative staff, program participants and citizens.
Knowledge of recreation or related field.
Knowledge of and skill in developing a variety of recreational or related programs such as youth and adult athletics, life skills, and social and wellness programs for seniors, afterschool programs, and fitness and health programs for all ages.
Skill in communicating with individuals and groups of various socioeconomic backgrounds.
Skill in researching, analyzing, and assessing program needs and accomplishments.
Ability to apply knowledge of program methods and techniques.
Ability to organize, promote and implement recreational programs.
Ability to instruct center participants in recreational activities.
Ability to supervise and develop effective working relationships.
