The Pennsylvania Park Maintenance Institute (PPMI) is an enterprise to build the capacity of park owners and stewards to maintain parks and their facilities in a safe, clean and ready-to-use manner. PPMI will launch in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The individual in this mid-level management position directs the statewide PPMI. He/she is responsible for the organizational leadership, development, and management of the mission, methods, program and partners of the Institute. He/she researches PRPS member and PPMI client needs, and develops, promotes and implements educational and capacity-building resources. This exempt position reports to the CEO.
Responsibilities and Relations
Leadership & Administration
Research and assess needs, plan, develop, administer and evaluate a comprehensive, year-round professional and technical education and training regime for PRPS members and PPMI subscribers in conjunction with other staff, members, volunteers, consultants and partners. Develop an annual administrative plan and budget.
Provide leadership and direction to the PPMI Advisory Board and solicit its advice in developing the Institute.
Manage the development and operations of the Online Park Maintenance Technical Assistance Library and its searchable asset management system. Supervise Content Curator(s).
Oversee and contribute to the PPMI Advisory Board and other volunteer-led committees and teams in developing and securing PPMI educational presentations, workshops and other resources. Manage event details. Work with the PRPS Director of Training and the PRPS Education Manager to coordinate PPMI educational programs with PRPS professional development plans.
Determine or approve measureable educational objectives for all training programs. Evaluate instructional effectiveness, success and returns-on-investments. Vet and secure appropriately qualified program speakers, instructors, trainers and facilitators.
Implement and maintain current best practices in adult education and corporate training methods and techniques. Manage and maintain PPMI instructional documents, educational materials, resources, supplies and equipment.
Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Communications & Marketing
With the Communications Manager, and PPMI Advisory Board where applicable, develop and implement an annual marketing plan and promotion strategies and materials to ensure the growth of PPMI and the highest success of its services. Represent PPMI to the public, partners, members, and clients.
Manage and contribute to all PPMI-related social media, website, communications and statewide marketing efforts.
Contribute to bimonthly and annual PRPS reports. Prepare and disseminate PPMI quarterly and annual reports.
Grants & Funding
With the Director of Strategic Partnerships and the CEO, seek and secure sources of grant and sponsorship funding to support PPMI operations.
Secure adequate number of annual PPMI subscribers for the Institute to be financially self-sustaining within 5 years.
Education and Certification
BS degree or equivalent experience in education, professional development, administration, marketing, or related fields.
Certified in one or more facility/property maintenance credentials: Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM), Environmental Facility Certification (EFC), etc.; or at least 5 years of professional experience in managing maintenance of natural and built environments, and attaining a relevant certification within two years of employment.

Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making sound decisions.
Professional knowledge of adult learning styles, instructional design and educational tools and techniques.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and social media marketing talents.
Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, Constant Contact, Survey Monkey (or similar software) and familiarity with website content management systems applications.
Personal commitment to recreation, parks, conservation, maintenance, professional development and connecting people to the outdoors.
