Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a dynamic Sr Therapeutic Recreation Manager to join our team. This full-time position will work a flexible to include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays and will be located at our Tyvola Senior Center. The incumbent manages all aspects of the Therapeutic Recreation Section including human resource management, fiscal management and accountability, budget development, strategic planning and implementation, program strategic planning and program development / management, project management, special projects and Departmental ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance as related to program access, facilities, parks, playgrounds and play areas, developed and undeveloped natural areas and play spaces, open spaces and greenways, policies/procedures/protocols and communication. The candidate will manage a staff of 8 full-time and 2 part-time and will have 10 years of Inclusion experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Establishes TR Section priorities, long-range goals and FALT focus area goals. • Identifies and monitors performance measure to assure quality of programs and services. • Reviews all plans related to parks, facilities and park amenities for compliance with ADA standards and acts as a liaison with local advocacy groups to support inclusion and compliance. • Provides training to Park and Recreation staff at various levels to help establish and maintain the inclusive and welcoming philosophy of the Department and the County, establish a commitment to inclusion and provide support for all staff to foster successful opportunities for inclusion. • Maintains a current knowledge of laws and practices related to the provision of Therapeutic Recreation, Inclusion and the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). • Maintains partnerships and positive relationships with organizations, agencies and support groups who provide services for or advocate for people with disabilities in order to maintain and provide the highest quality services and programs. • Establishes an environment where the Therapeutic Recreation Code of Ethics and Therapeutic Recreation Standards of Practice are understood and followed in all aspects of service to the TR Community.
Candidate will have five years of related supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience: Bachelor's Degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Leisure Services Management, or Therapeutic Recreation; Current certification as a CTRS through NCTRC and current licensure as a LRT through NCBRTL. If incumbent is not a current resident of NC, must have the ability to obtain licensure as an LRT within 45 calendar days of hire date; Position requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina’s driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a County Operators Permit.
