RECREATION PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill one Recreation Program Director (Selective Certification - Aquatics) vacancy within Oakland Parks, Recreation and Youth Development. Incumbents provide leadership for community-based recreational programs and activities and assist in the management of a recreation facility or city-wide program. The current position oversees the operation of an Aquatic Park and pools; promotes membership opportunities to the public; and plans, coordinates and promotes aquatic programs at the facilities/pools. The incumbent must possess specialized knowledge of aquatic programs and activities.
The selected candidate will teach and lead advanced level aquatic programs and classes; provide staff training in aquatics as required; write general descriptions of aquatics classes offered; provide facility tours, membership pass pricing and program information to the public; facilitate membership registration and orientation; coordinate special aquatic-related events and programs; and conduct community outreach.
Minimum requirements include graduation from college with a Bachelor's degree in recreation or a related field and one year of demonstrated experience coordinating, facilitating and managing specialized aquatics programs and activities. Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required. Additionally, must have a current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (L.G.I.), current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.) and current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications. In addition, Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard and Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) Instructor certifications are highly desirable. Please scan and attach if you possess these. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin are highly desirable and may be required for certain positions.
