The City is seeking a community-minded, enterprising, passionate, and participative servant leader committed to the ideal that the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department (PRNS) and City organization can create significant opportunities to improve the quality of life of San Jose’s residents and greater San Francisco Bay Area community. The next PRNS Director will be joining a highly engaged team with a diverse portfolio of programs from recreation programming to landscaping and maintenance activities, as well as the management of park rangers, with the primary focus on “Building Community Through Fun!”
PRNS has three core services it delivers to the community: Community Facilities Development, Parks Maintenance and Operations, and Recreation and Community Services, and is staffed with 711 full time equivalent positions and annual FY 2018-2019 Operating budget of $100 million, Capital budget of almost $200 million as well as a five-year Capital Improvement Program of $340 million.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in parks and recreation, public administration, business administration, urban planning, or other related field, and ten (10) years of increasingly responsible senior management experience, including five (5) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. A Master’s Degree is desired.
