The Director will establish and administer long-range strategic plans and goals for the 80,000 sq. ft Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center and the Mission Family Aquatic Center. Improvements and upgrades to the City’s ten outdoor parks will be an area of emphasis for the next 5-10 years. Successful candidate will ensure compliance with quality control, customer service and risk management policies and procedures for all facilities. A critical function will be reviewing and evaluating current work methods and procedures and identifying opportunities for improving service delivery methods. The incumbent will prepare, review and administer the department budget and manage capital projects. Additionally, this position entails developing and implementing a marketing plan, exploring partnerships and sponsorships and responding to citizen inquiries. Leadership duties include hiring, supervising and evaluating the staff, while serving as an exceptional role model reflective of our City’s culture. The Director will also provide staff support to a variety of boards and commissions, attend and participate in City Council meetings, and serve on professional organizations and outside agencies.
Required Education/Experience: One to five years related experience and/or training; and a Master’s degree or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Areas of education: park and recreation management or administration. Experience in administration of recreational programs, including considerable supervisory experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
