This position is responsible for operation of Adventure Island, Lords Park and Wing Park Family Aquatic Centers. The position is responsible for the scheduling, maintenance, and daily operation of the three facilities. This position also oversees approximately 140 seasonal employees and 40 part-time employees. Position is responsible for financial reporting of the three facilities and works with other departments within the City to maintain the facilities.
The position is responsible for the training of lifeguards, head lifeguards, desk attendants, cashiers, and attendants at all three facilities. In addition, this position is responsible for the Learn-to-Swim program and the training of its instructors. Responsibilities include overseeing the Elgin Cyclone Swim Team, its six coaches, and the facility. In addition, programs such as water aerobics, Scuba Diving, Arthritis Foundation, Yoqua, and private rentals are all included in this positions oversight including the scheduling, programming and staffing of these programs.
In addition to operational responsibilities of the 3 aquatic centers this position performs difficult professional and intermediate administrative work planning, organizing, and coordinating a variety of programs and activities and related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Facilities Manager. Supervision is exercised over assigned full-time, maintenance and seasonal staff.
Thorough knowledge of the principles, rules, techniques, materials and equipment required for a variety of recreational activities; thorough knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation; ability to instruct participants and adhere to program standards and objectives of public recreation; general knowledge of media techniques; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, community officials, volunteer groups and the general public. Extensive and demonstrative knowledge of the use and application of MS Office Suite and electronic mail systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in recreation/leisure services or related field and considerable experience in special events or recreational programming.
CERTIFICATIONS Must possess International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) certification Possession of a Aquatic Facility Operator certification preferred Possession of a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification preferred
