This position is responsible for all management and supervision aspects of Wildwood Park, and performs all job duties towards the goal of ensuring the best possible guest service, while meeting or exceeding financial goals.
Wildwood Park is located on Thurmond Lake (also known as Clarks Hill Lake). This 975 acre park offers access to the 72,000-acre lake which is excellent for fishing and boating activities. Wildwood Park was voted Best Campground in Columbia County and Metro Augusta by readers of the Columbia County Magazine in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012. Featured amenities of the park include 61 campsites, 6-lane mega boat ramp, weigh-in station, beach area, picnic area, 7 covered pavilions, restrooms, and showers. Wildwood is also home of the International Disc Golf Center, and includes 3 disc golf courses on site. Wildwood Park hosts multiple fishing tournaments each year. Not only local and regional tournaments flock to Wildwood, but tournaments such as ESPN Bassmasters, American Bass Anglers, FLW, BFL, and Georgia Bass Federation have all held tournaments at the park.
Work is typically performed sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending or crouching and requires frequent lifting of light objects and occasional lifting of heavy objects weighing more than twenty five pounds. Employee must be able to climb ladders, distinguish among shades of color and exhibit manual dexterity.
Work is performed in an office setting, as well as outside where the employee is exposed to cold, heat and inclement weather. Employee is exposed to dirt, dust and noise sometimes required to wear protective devices such as mask, ear protection and gloves.
Contacts are typically with co-workers in recreation and leisure services, other county department employees, community and civic organizations, volunteers and members of the general public.
The employee has direct supervision over park host campers and park volunteers. He/she may also supervise any Program or Park Services Staff as assigned. Performance in this position impacts public perception of the department and Wildwood Park that may affect the use and ability of the department to provide services effectively.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Parks and Recreation Management or related field accompanied by at least three (3) years of full-time experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Parks and Recreation Professional Certification (CPRP) preferred. CPR and Red Cross First Aid certification must be obtained within one month of hire. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the class of the vehicle or equipment operated is required.
