EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Manager, the Recreation Coordinator plans, organizes, supervises, promotes and implements various athletic and recreational programs, services, and special events. This is a working supervisor position that participates in the work assigned while overseeing the delivery of programs and services. Personifies positive leadership and promotes shared responsibility, diversity, teamwork and continuous improvement by working with various community groups, organizations, staff and volunteers throughout all departments within the Town of Prescott Valley. Advises, observes, evaluates existing services/projects/programs and provides technical assistance both verbally and in writing. Supervises part-time, temporary, contract and volunteer Parks and Recreation personnel and provides development services including the recruitment, selection, training, observation and evaluation of staff. Responsible for budget administration over the areas of responsibility and maintains financial records to justify and support on-going services. Oversees the maintenance of assigned recreation facilities and grounds, and supervises the issuance, use, care and maintenance of supplies and maintenance equipment. Submits a variety of monthly and weekly reports on issues including work management, populations served, budget status, accomplishments and challenges. Performs other duties as assigned throughout the division. This position is responsible for promoting an environment that prioritizes sportsmanship, inclusivity, and civility and is a visible role model for ethics and integrity. Ideal candidates will demonstrate: experience in the administration of athletic leagues, intramurals, and special events serving adults and teens; tremendous organizational skills with knowledge of facility scheduling software; proven experience in attracting sport tournament organizers with high economic impact; knowledge in the allocation of services/facilities with multiple groups whose interests and needs may conflict; as well as experience working with both turf/irrigation technicians and concession contractors ensuring highly quality and safe experiences that exceed patron expectations.
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure studies, Physical Education or a closely related field; two (2) years full-time professional recreation experience in Athletic programming and execution, including the tracking and reporting of program statistics; two (2) years of experience in a supervisor or lead role within a recreation setting; or any equivalent combined education and experience that provides the necessary skills and abilities to perform the essential duties. This is an hourly position typically working 40 hours weekly but must have the ability to work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays depending on program needs. Requires strong communication skills, working knowledge of standard office equipment including personal computers and recreational software systems, and possession of a valid Arizona driver's license with a good driving record. The successful candidate will be required to successfully pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screening. Officials' certification in related sports is highly preferred.
