The Murrysville Recreation Department is currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to plan, organize, implement and supervise fun and exciting outdoor activities for participants of Murrysville’s Summer Park Adventures (SPA) Program. As the Summer Park Program Supervisor you’re expected to act as a guide and facilitator (not an expert instructor), who cultivates camper’s curiosity while ensuring children are safe, engaged and supported, while training and supervising staff and volunteers. Being a Summer Park Program Supervisor is a rewarding part-time position which provides hands-on experience working with children in an outdoor setting. This is an ideal position for a college student and/or graduate or persons with a strong background in education or recreation. The Summer Park Program Supervisor will be expected to work Monday thru Friday, June 10 to July 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (no vacations during this time). Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Creating daily engaging recreational opportunities that adapt to the environment and weather • Engaging constantly with participants in fun, challenging and creative daily activities • Training youth volunteers and supervising staff members • Tracking and ordering supplies • Maintaining accurate program records, including registrations and payments, incident reports, logs, and daily attendance reports • Other tasks as needed
Additional Duties and Responsibilities: • Be a positive role model • Communicate clearly and courteously with other staff, parents, and participants • Actively supervise the participants at all times and follow good practice discipline procedures • Keep Recreation Director alerted to all potential problems and issues • Submit expenses incurred for programs assigned
Qualifications: • A college degree, current college student and/or persons with a strong background in education or recreation is preferred • Experience working with and directing youth and recreation programs and interfacing with groups • Display a high level of organizational abilities pertaining to coordinating program activities • Creativity in program design • Ability to solve organizational and program problems • Excellent interpersonal skills in motivating, directing and supervising participants in a variety of activities • Excellent skills in written and oral communication • Four years of increasingly responsible related experience
Special Requirements: • Valid PA Driver’s License • CPR/AED & First Aid Certification
Additional Salary Information: The hours of employment are six on-site hours per day when the program is in session and up to 15 hours of planning time per calendar year. Additional hours must be authorized by the Recreation Director.
