The Hartford Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a highly motivated, energetic Parks & Recreation Intern for the 2019 summer season.
The Hartford Parks & Recreation Department is a year-round, national accredited agency. The department services a population of 10,000 with offering a variety of leisure programs, comprehensive athletics and special events. The department manages an outdoor sports complex, ice arena, and public properties consisting of thirteen parks.
Under the general direction of the Parks & Recreation Director, position responsibilities will be developed around the Intern's strengths, growth areas and interests. Responsibilities will vary to broaden the learning experience and provide a well-rounded experience for the Intern. The Hartford Parks & Recreation Department has designed an internship program that provides a well-rounded experience; which introduces all aspects of a diverse and comprehensive Parks & Recreation department. This provides the student with an opportunity to put what they have learned to work. It is a "hands on" experience that reflects what park and recreational professionals do on the job to ensure necessary and enhanced services to the community.
Experiences gained will include program planning, budget preparation, personnel supervision, project management, park operations and working directly with the public. Intern must be a self-starter and well organized.
Ideal applicant will be a Junior and/or Senior in college (or graduate student) with a declared major/minor in parks and recreation, leisure studies or related field of study from an accredited college or university. The position is flexible 40 hours per week with some evenings and weekends. Internship length is up to twelve weeks.
