The National Recreation and Park Association is actively recruiting for an experienced Communications Manager to work with NRPA’s Corporate Funding and Partnership Development division. This role is a critical member of the NRPA’s Marketing and Communications team. The position will report directly to NRPA’s director of communications.
This person will be responsible for implementation and development of strategic communication and marketing plans that support initiatives and programs managed through the partnerships department at NRPA. This person will also work closely with our public relations team on national media campaigns and project planning, as well as coordinating articles for NRPA’s award winning magazine, Parks & Recreation. This person will spearhead these initiatives with the intention to increase the prominence of the organization’s funding and partnerships division and advance the mission and impact of NRPA’s work. This position will share responsibility for the overall development, growth and brand of each of these rapidly growing areas.
Our ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, self-directed individual, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic This person will also be a creative thinker with excellent writing and storytelling skills. The candidate should be accomplished at managing projects from concept to completion working through all stages of marketing, branding/PR and communication venues. This candidate must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment, as well as be open to a constant flow of ideas through brainstorming and team collaboration. Experience working with corporate partners and/or on national public engagement campaigns a plus.

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000 range. Salary requirements and salary history are required with submission.

Requirements: Successful candidate will have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year degree in journalism, communications, marketing, political science or related field, as well as 5 -7 years demonstrating knowledge of and interactions with work in public relations. Must have a solid grasp of the big picture and the how and the why of funding campaigns coming together. Must understand how outbound awareness through a variety of communication strategies leads to overall success. Candidate must have knowledge of the internal workings of local and federal governments and how to accurately interpret, and then message out these definitions in a constructive manner.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong command of English language, especially grammar; working knowledge of style books; copy editing; fact checking; interviewing techniques; general knowledge of how publications and media campaigns come together; general knowledge of current events politics, sports, culture; solid writing and proof-reading skills (tests will be administered); computer use for writing, research, and some design; photography / videography; work independently once given an assignment; able to handle multiple assignments quickly; enjoy working with staffs of other departments and with outside professions.
