Coordinates, supervises, and reviews the work of the parks division. Responsible for 40 + parks and over 1,300 acres of parkland, medians and landscape areas. Assigns projects to be done and reviews progress. Handles personnel matters, hires, evaluates, and terminates employees. Monitors parks construction projects.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work more than 40 hours a week. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Knowledge of excellent management skills to coordinate personnel and projects, equipment, pesticides, and fertilizers. Knowledge of budget and purchase orders. Ability to prepare plan, specifications, and draft policies, agreement, contract, etc. Ability to operate personal computer. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field from an accredited college or university.
Must obtain Texas Department of Agriculture Certified Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in plant pest control, weed control, and right-of-way control within six months.
Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Three years related experience.
Prior supervisory experience.
Computer experience in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
