TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) Incumbents plan, coordinate, implement, and monitor recreational and/or sports activities for an indoor recreation facility. Responsibilities may include determining recreational or sports offerings; supervising seasonal and part-time staff; scheduling the use of facilities; inspecting facilities; establishing and monitoring facility maintenance schedules; monitoring a budget; maintaining records; and preparing operational reports.
Supervises seasonal and part-time staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
Coordinates the day-to-day activities of assigned parks and related grounds, which includes determining recreation or sports offerings within established programs, prioritizing projects and assigning tasks, monitoring the work of subordinates, and responding to citizen requests and complaints.
Monitors and inspects facilities which may include scheduling facility reservations, establishing and monitoring facility maintenance schedules, and performing related duties.
Assists with budget preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; submits invoices for payment and monitors expenses.
Prepares a variety of operational records and reports.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require): Bachelor's degree in sports management, public administration, or a related field and one year experience in a parks and recreation department; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require): Certified Parks and Recreation Professional
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry): Supervisory principles; Recreational program planning principles and practices; Applicable age-appropriate activities, programs, and materials; Basic budgeting principles; Event planning techniques; Customer service principles; Recordkeeping practices and principles; Computers and related software applications.
SKILLS (position requirements at entry): Monitoring and evaluating employees; Prioritizing and assigning work; Overseeing recreation program sites, facilities, and equipment; Planning, developing, supervising, and managing programs and/or events; Providing customer service; Monitoring budgets; Developing promotional materials; Preparing and maintaining records and reports; Using a computer and related software applications; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
