MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Under the direction of the Commissioner and First Deputy Commissioner and reporting to the Deputy Commissioner for Operations/Chief Operating Officer, serve as a borough’s chief executive planning and operations officer for all borough activities. • Direct maintenance and operations, administration, budget, technical services, forestry and horticulture. Oversee capital project development and support public programs for the borough and work collaboratively with citywide divisions on agency priorities and initiatives. • Analyze and adjust operations based on performance measurements and customer satisfaction. • Develop and formulate expense and capital budget priorities and personnel staffing requests for the borough. Work closely with senior management on the administration of budget and park construction and reconstruction projects. • Manage community relations and public information related to borough events and operations. • As the Commissioner’s representative, meet with the Borough President, City Council members, community boards, neighborhood associations, environmental groups, sports and cultural organizations and other interest groups to address general policy issues and community matters. • Work closely with the Mayor’s Office and other city agencies regarding security and maintenance issues. • Promote community involvement and volunteer programs in the operation of the borough’s parks and programs. • Work with officials at other city, state and federal agencies to deliver services to constituents.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full-time experience in one or more of the following fields: park management, park or urban rehabilitation, urban or regional planning, horticulture or forestry, historic preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, recreation, public sector budgeting, or related fields, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial capacity, or in supervision of professional staff working in any of the above mentioned areas; or 2. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. However, all candidates must have the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory experience as described in “1” above.
Residency in one of the five boroughs of New York City required within 90 days of hire.
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS 1. Five plus years of management and operations experience at a high level. 2. Public/non-profit management experience a plus. 3. Excellent communication skills including public speaking, writing and handling press and public information requests. 4. Strong ability to create and manage budgets and projects, and experience working with public officials and a wide variety of partnership organizations. 5. Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Management, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Journalism or Law. 6. A valid New York State driver license.
Salary: $165,000 plus excellent benefits
