The City of Hobbs is looking for an Aquatics Coordinator at our fantastic recreational facility, the CORE! The Aquatics division consists of: a leisure pool with two 40 ft. slides, lazy river, a zero entry pool, 25m x 25yds competition pool with depths from 4'4" to 13'6", Myrtha pool, 2-3m diving boards, 2-1m diving boards, and a therapy pool 3 1/2' to 5' depth containing a fully ADA accessible lift.

The Aquatics/ Learn to Swim Coordinator organizes and supervises the operations of the Aquatics Division which includes conducting all programming to include: learn-to-swim classes, maintaining certification records, scheduling staff, ensuring pool safety and proper maintenance. This position is responsible for all aspects of the Aquatics Division at the C.O.R.E. (Center of Recreational Excellence).
Manages, schedules, trains and evaluates all aquatics division staff. Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; administers performance evaluations; ensures staff is trained; ensures employees understand and follow policies and procedures; maintains a healthy and safe working environment; makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
Provides day-to-day supervision of all aquatic programs including scheduling of lifeguards and instructors to ensure coverage meets Association guidelines and standards.
Develops, coordinates, promotes and evaluates all aquatic programs and activities such as swim instruction, water fitness, recreational, competitive and therapeutic programs.
Ensures high quality programs and enrollment targets are met.
Develops and schedules aquatic programming for the CORE to include, classes, swim meets, tournaments, swim lessons, lap swimming, swim practices and other aquatic programs as developed and assigned.
In coordination with the CORE Director, develops daily, monthly and seasonal pool schedules, with emphasis on appropriate guarding ratios and pool supervision.
Maintains accurate records of staff certifications and training compliance, monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and health and safety regulations, and conducts lifeguard, swim instructor, First Aid and CPR trainings.
Teaches classes and lifeguards as necessary, will provide ongoing in-service training and safety checks for aquatic staff.
Handles the filtration system and other aquatic operating systems with the assistance of the Facility Maintenance Department.
Maintains proper pool chemical balance.
Performs regular safety inspections of pools and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety to the patrons.
Monitors division budget including revenue and expenditure projections plus supply and equipment needs.
Assists the Director in budget preparation.
Receives approval for all expenditures from the CORE Facility Director.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from a four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Aquatics, Physical Education or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience with at least three (3) years of directly related aquatics experience with supervisory capacity. Experience teaching lifeguard and swim instructor classes preferred. Experience in communications, technology and/or business management is preferred.

Ability to utilize computer skills including proficiencies in word processing and basic spreadsheet applications.
Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships up and down the chain of command.
Must possess knowledge of lifeguarding, swim instruction, competitive/recreational swimming and aquatic therapy.
Must possess working knowledge of swimming pool filters, mechanical systems and the use of chemicals for swimming pool and water chemistry.
Must have exceptional customer service and communication skills.
Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to deal with people under stressful and demanding situations.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid state issued driver’s license.
Certified as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operation (CPO)
Must possess Lifeguard Instructor certification
CPR/AED/First Aid certification required.
