Washington State Parks employs more than 500 permanent staff and more than 350 seasonal and temporary staff throughout the state. The headquarters office is located in Tumwater, and region offices are located in Burlington, East Wenatchee and Tumwater.
This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Park Ranger 4 (Area Manager) for the Central Whidbey Area, which includes: Fort Casey, Fort Ebey, South Whidbey, Possession Point, Ebey's Landing and Joseph Whidbey State Parks. The duty station is at Fort Casey State Park.

This position directly supports the mission managing the Central Whidbey Area, developing, controlling, and ensuring all program activities for the area are accomplished. The Central Whidbey Area includes Fort Casey, Fort Ebey, South Whidbey. Possession Point, Ebey's Landing, and Joseph Whidbey State Parks.
This position serves as a leader in the Operations Division and offers expert level opinion on projects, policy, procedure, rules and regulations from a front line operational perspective so that decision making includes a complete perspective of probable impacts. This position serves as a conduit between higher level operational decisions and front line staff, promoting and supporting operations policy, procedure, and strategy.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Facilitate the identification, planning, and oversight of all park activities as required necessary to fulfill the mission/vision of the park area, division and agency:
Develop, submit for review, and maintain Operational Planning & Reports.
Manage area budget; ensure fiscal accountability and compliance with agency policies and procedures.
Provide direction and oversight for all maintenance functions in the area and coordinate with other Agency staff as needed:
Set maintenance priorities for area.
Develop and maintain biennial plan for area maintenance needs, including the routine maintenance plan for the park area.
Construct and manage area equipment and develop project budgets in cooperation with Region and statewide priorities.
Ensure required maintenance safety training and procedures are met by all area staff and documented as required.
Supervise direct reports: ensure they are following all applicable Agency policies and procedures, statewide rules and regulations and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Provide leadership in park area and participate in leadership opportunities in the division and agency:
Understand and support Agency mission and vision.
Understand and support division mission and vision.
Create and maintain Area mission and vision in alignment with the Agency and Division goals.
Proactively communicate with staff in a positive and supportive manner.
Actively participate in agency wide peer group meetings.
Seek opportunities to demonstrate innovation and leadership within assigned area.
Represent State Parks at meetings, in collaboration with agency programs, and in all facets of public engagement.
Oversee Law Enforcement activities.
Four (4) years of professional experience in a Natural Resource field.
Two (2) years of supervision at the professional level.
Valid Driver's license.
** Experience in a Natural Resource or Recreation field will substitute year for year for education.**
Two (2) years of Law Enforcement experience.
Completion of leadership training classes or coursework.
Bachelor's Degree with 24 qtr/18 semester hours in Parks and Recreation, or Natural Resources.
Previous supervisory experience.
Previous project planning experience.
