SUMMARY Develop, coordinate and administer a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for Mercyhurst University intercollegiate sports. Provide professional and administrative services necessary for the implementation and expansion of such a program. Serve as the Director of the Student Recreation and Fitness Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Design, implement, conduct, and monitor strength and conditioning programs for Mercyhurst University's varsity sports -As needed, work in conjunction with the athletic training staff, as well as coaches to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, rehabilitation, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs. -Provide strength and conditioning coaching for the University's athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team sessions for Men's and Women's Ice Hockey and other sports (not to include football). -Provide oversight and guidance to the football strength and conditioning coach. - Oversee the development and implementation of the fitness program, including the fitness center and campus wide programs -Oversee campus recreation programs to ensure risk management in liability issues -Monitor equipment usage in the fitness center and schedules maintenance on the machines as needed -Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, mentor, develop and evaluate a team of student staff members -Involvement in planning, coordinating, and implementing the development of a needs/growth plan and estimates for new construction and renovation related to fitness and recreational building. -Coordinates Graduate Assistant and Work-Study Student Employee Training program -Serve as a resource/representative to the athletic department and university community as requested on topics of recreation and student wellness -Supervise a minimum of 2 graduate assistants and student staff -Represent the recreation center and the athletic department on various committees and special events as requested; -Develop and implement a program in which graduate assistants can become certified strength and conditioning coaches to assist in the implementation of a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for Mercyhurst varsity athletes. -Supervise the compilation and maintenance of statistical information related to team performance in the weight room as well as usage statistics for the rec center and ice center. -Assist the Business Manager and Athletic Director in preparation of the Strength and Conditioning budget. -Plan and schedule the purchasing of all program supplies and equipment within allocated budget parameters. -Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. **The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this classification. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE -Bachelor's degree in related field, master's preferred. 3 years professional related experience. -Experience managing a health and fitness center and as an athletic team strength and conditioning coach preferred. -Familiarity with NCAA Division I & II and Mercyhurst University varsity team conference rules. - National Strength and Conditioning Association or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association certification required. -USA Weightlifting and ACSM Certifications preferred.
