This position is responsible for coordinating city recreation programs, Dakota State University Intramural, and Community Center programs and activities.
Recommends, develops, implements, and schedules programs and classes for youth and adults.
Develops, plans, coordinates, and supervises special events.
Monitors the safety of program and event participants, members, and guests.
Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives; researches, develops, recommends and implements new programs; establishes schedules and methods for providing programs.
Responds to and resolves complaints.
Participates in the preparation and administration of the recreation budget; submits budget recommendations; monitors expenditures.
Assesses facilities, fee structures, and equipment needs; evaluates current programs and implements changes to existing programs.
Develops and implements marketing and public relations strategies to promote programs and classes.
Teaches classes and oversees programs.
Develops league schedules.
Selects, trains, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines staff; conducts regular staff meetings and training sessions.
Maintains a variety of records and reports.
Performs related duties.
The work consists of varied management, supervisory, and instructional duties. The wide variety of programs and services provided contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to coordinate the provision of recreation programming. Successful performance contributes to the efficient and effective delivery of programs and services to area residents.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and climbs ladders.
The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
The position will work a flex schedule including afternoon to evening hours.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over assigned part-time and seasonal personnel. The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
