Under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Manager or other supervisory staff, develops, coordinates, and supervises quality recreation facilities, programs, services and special events for all community members. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Plans, organizes, supervises, promotes and implements programs, services, and special events as assigned; Writes program evaluations; Maintains financial records to justify and support programs; Develops reports concerning new or ongoing programs and effectiveness; Prepares and submits budgets for individual areas of responsibility, and program areas; Monitors and expends budget effectively; Personifies leadership and promotes shared responsibility, diversity, teamwork and continuous improvement by working with various community groups, organizations and volunteers; Advises, observes, evaluates existing services/projects/programs and provides technical assistance both verbally and in writing; Supervises part-time, temporary, contract and volunteer personnel and provides development services including the recruitment, selection, training, observation and evaluation of contractual, seasonal, and voluntary recreation staff; Oversees the maintenance of selected recreation facilities and grounds, and supervises the issuance, use, care and maintenance of recreation supplies and maintenance equipment; Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with outside organizations and groups and schools, in an effort to support and complete the department objectives; Recommends operation policy for programs and facilities; enforces and communicates policy decisions; Prepares comprehensive reports on current program and maintenance operational items; Establishes and identifies in-house and outside training opportunities for staff members; Submits a variety of monthly and weekly reports on issues including work management, populations served, budget status, accomplishments and challenges; Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure studies, Physical Education or a closely related field; two (2) years full-time professional recreation experience in programming and execution, including the tracking and reporting of program statistics; two (2) years of experience in a lead role within a community recreation setting; or any equivalent combined education and experience that provides the necessary skills and abilities to perform the essential duties. This is an hourly position typically working 40 hours weekly but must have the ability to work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays depending on program needs. Requires strong communication skills, working knowledge of standard office equipment including personal computers and recreational software systems, and possession of a valid Arizona driver's license with a good driving record. The successful candidate will be required to successfully pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screening. Current first aid, AED and CPR or the ability to obtain in three (3) months of hire is required. Successful candidates will demonstrate abilities for development and implementation of dynamic recreation programs for residents with the following goals: increase opportunities for community and social engagement; enhance health and wellness through activities; and provide access to local services and programs to support a high quality of life.
