The Recreation Superintendent manages all activities and functions of the recreation division including Recreation Administration, Athletics, Special Events,Splashville, and Senior Center Services. Job entails a large number of tasks and duties, which involve broad functions and processes of an administrative and professional nature, requiring decision-making and analysis. Position requires regular contact with officials, employees, and the general public in situations which require considerable tact and judgment. Position is responsible for providing clear and organized strucuture that allows the department to grow and provide exceptional recreational services to the community. Incumbent is also responsible for cultivating a department that thrives on innovation, teamwork, efficiency, and fun.
Essential Job Functions:
Provides technical assistance and supervision to a staff of recreation instructors to develop programs
Reviews and interprets municipal policies regarding recreation and implements theses policies
Prepares budgets for recreation activities and submits periodic operational and financial reports
Purchases materials and equipment
Plans all equipment, facilities, and personnel necessary for recreational functions
Prepares long range plans for the recreation department
Administers the plans and programs of the recreation department
Supervises use of recreational facilities such as swimming pool, tennis courts, ballfields, parks, and recreation buildings
Selects, trains, and assigns permanent and seasonal personnel to supervise recreational activities
Confers with civic groups and organizations on recreation matters
Investigates citizens complaints and takes or recommends appropriate action
Provides assistance to the Senior Citizens and Park/Cemetery Superintendent in areas where needed
Inspects assigned equipment for proper operation; operates equipment as required
Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports; schedule time off for holidays and vacations
Ensure safety rules and regulations or practices are observed in the performance of all duties
Performs other duties assigned by the Community Services Director
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Update the recreation division’s social media and web site to effectively market the division’s activities
Assists in the research and related studies of community needs to promote and maintain maximum participants in events, programs and facility use
Maintain required records of the division activities, services, personnel and facilities
Support customer service desk operations as needed including conducting cash and credit transactions
Attend and prepare for various meetings, seminars and conferences
Assume management responsibilities in the Emergency Operations Command Center during emergency situations
Demonstrate political acumen
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Recreation or a related field, and/or 5 years supervisory experience in Parks and Recreation (A combination of experience will be considered in lieu of degree)
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in operation and management of a comparable recreation program, which includes budget development, management, program development and promotion/marketing
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred
Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) preferred
Valid Texas Driver's License
Computer Skills including word processing, spreadsheets, recreation program and some graphic design skills preferred
Current CPR/AED Certifications
