The Cordova Recreation and Park District is seeking a Recreation Supervisor II to organize, supervise, and promote operations at the Mather Sports Center and a wide variety of recreational programs, facilities, athletic fields and special events. The Ideal Candidate
The candidate must have knowledge of the philosophy, principals, and practices of public recreation and comprehensive recreation program development. This person should possess sound customer service, business, management, and marketing skills. Good problem solving, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are required. The ability to foster relationships with key partners and stakeholders is essential. The Recreation Supervisor II has day-to-day oversight and responsibility for assigned work and may delegate or authorize assigned work to the lower level classifications; Has knowledge of issues, policies, and trends relating to recreational facilities; Maintains effective public relations and customer service providing information and projecting positive image to the community-at-large; And analyze trends, demographics and community conditions in the preparation of a variety of reports and memoranda on various parks and recreation related subjects.
The Recreation Supervisor II position is responsible for the management of the Mather Sports Center Complex. This facility is a regional sports destination with synthetic turf athletic fields, skate/BMX park, full-size basketball gym, cardio and weight rooms, racquetball courts, a dance studio and a natural turf baseball field. The Recreation Supervisor II is also responsible for youth and adult sports programs, athletic field rentals, health and wellness programs and special events. This position oversees full-time and part-time recreation and facility staff and volunteers.
Education and Experience (position requirements at entry):
Graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in recreation, or a specialized field related to recreation, and three years of experience working in a supervisory capacity. Exceptional experience may be substituted for some education.
Licenses and Certifications (position requirements at entry):
Must possess current certification in First Aid and CPR or must obtain such within six months after employment. Must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a safe driving record.
The philosophy, principles, and practices of public recreation with; management and supervisory principles and practices; comprehensive recreation program development, promotion and management; project management methods and risk management programs; program marketing and development; public relations, marketing and customer service techniques.
Develop and deliver comprehensive year-round, high-quality recreational programs for all ages; plan, schedule, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the work of subordinates; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; multitask; develop effective marketing strategies; plan, manage, and schedule recreational programs that meet the needs of the community; develop accurate budgets of program revenues and expenditures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, community groups, program participants, representatives of public and private agencies, and the general public; provide quality services in a cost-effective manner and to recommend improved methods of performing the work; use of Microsoft Office Suite; use a computerized registration system; work with boards, commissions and public groups; manage multiple priorities; safely perform the essential functions of the job; work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Modern methods, techniques, principles and procedures used in the development and administration of a diversified fitness facility; facility management and scheduling; procurement of facility equipment, supplies, and services; State codes, safety regulations; follow all liability code regulations for a fitness facility; maintain current health and safety legal permits; and interpersonal skills to relate to a diverse user group.

About Cordova Recreation and Park District
The Cordova Recreation and Park District is one of the largest Independent Special Districts in Sacramento County. It encompasses over 75 square miles with over 120,000 residents of extraordinary diversity. The District administers a total of 438 acres which include over 40 parks and facilities including neighborhood parks, community parks, two community swimming pools, the Community Center at Hagan Park, Cordova Senior Activities Center, Mather Sports Center, Cordova Public Shooting Center, and the Cordova Golf Course. The District has great potential for future growth and expansion and during the next few decades anticipates approximately 70 new parks will be built in the southeastern portion of the District.
