Montgomery County Recreation is a nationally recognized agency seeking a dynamic and motivated career employee who can help to support the operations of our award-winning aquatics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a large County public swimming pool facility consisting of multiple pools and filter plants, large seasonal staff, numerous work schedules, and varied aquatics programs. Employee will be responsible for verifying daily admission and program fees. This position requires a technical knowledge of pool operation and management. The employee must have knowledge of and certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR, First aid, and Automated External Defibrillation (AED). Candidate should be certified as a Lifeguard Training Instructor or willing to obtain this certification within the first six months of employment.
This employee will be responsible for supervising and maintaining the stability of a large seasonal staff by modeling desired behaviors, through consistent and positive work ethic, and by advocating on behalf of management and the team. Provide direction and guidance to employees through clear articulation of schedules, projects, activities, goals and related services.
The employee will be responsible for planning, directing, evaluating, and overseeing pool and aquatics program activities. This position requires the employee to quickly acquire knowledge of ACTIVE software application for planning and registration processing. Employee will be responsible for handling interactions with patrons, communicating clearly, effectively and tactfully, both orally and in writing.
Employee will be responsible for operating and cleaning mechanical equipment used in pool operations including water filtration and chemical purification systems, intake and outlet valves, chemical feeders, pumps, vacuum equipment, and chemical delivery systems. This position requires the constant inspection and testing for pool cleanliness. Employee will be responsible for preparing and maintaining records and ordering supplies, when necessary. Employee will be responsible for the development, use and enforcement of safety procedures. Employee will also be responsible for administering First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) when necessary, while complying with health and safety codes set forth by the Recreation Department.
The Senior Pool Manager is a key member of the Aquatics Team and will be required to demonstrate professional courtesy to community members, recreation staff and others who may be encountered in the field. The successful candidate will have experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work towards improving one's own cultural competence (i.e., valuing differences/ diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's expertise and having the desire to learn in these areas.) The successful candidate will also demonstrate broad individual responsibility executing general facility cleanliness, care, and grounds cleaning.
This position will be supervised by a Recreation Supervisor and stationed at County-operated aquatic facilities. Scheduling for this position will vary based on the operating schedule of the facilities. This position requires evening, weekend, and holiday hours. This work involves physical demands, frequently working outdoors in varying weather and extreme temperatures. This work may require the use/wear of personal protective equipment. This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office. Two (2) years of pool operating experience.
* Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job related duties. * Valid Montgomery County Pool Operator's License or equivalent (i.e., PG County Pool Operator, Howard County, etc.). * Current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications from the American Red Cross, YMCA, or other agency approved by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. Note: There will be no substitutions for this section.

o Montgomery County Health and Safety codes regarding aquatic facilities
o chemical and technical aspects of swimming pools, including filter systems, chemical delivery systems, HVAC systems, and chemical balance
o applicable policies, procedures, and rules
o characteristics and abilities of the population groups served by the Montgomery County Aquatics Programs
o program administration requirements
o pool industry standards for aquatic program development and implementation
o relevant personal computer applications necessary to facilitate the administrative processes.
