The City of Covington is seeking an enthusiastic professional inspired to carry forth the development of a new parks system in a young, dynamic city. The successful candidate can look forward to growing park spaces and facilities tailored to a welcoming and active community. They will be accomplished in the natural demonstration of congenial, responsive communications with a diverse audience, including city councilmembers, staff, citizens, outside agencies, and contractors—either in an office setting or in the field. Representative responsibilities: The Parks Planning and Development Manager will analyze, propose, and implement a variety of parks and recreation planning and capital development activities. Major responsibilities of this position are short- and long-term planning related to the city’s park system, developing funding plans, grant applications/administration, and project/construction management. The successful candidate must be able to manage a sizable workload; effectively pursue grants; complete projects in a timely manner; interface with the public; and be a contributing, collaborative member of the city team. A Bachelor’s Degree in Parks Administration, Parks Planning, Urban or Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related design, planning or construction management degree plus two (2) years increasingly responsible related work experience. Any combination of experience and training that provides the candidate with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job, including a sufficient amount of additional work experience in lieu of a degree, may be considered.
