The Parks Services Section of the Public Works Department manages more than $30M of capital improvement program (CIP) projects as part of the 5-year CIP budget identified through an asset management approach. The Parks Capital Improvement Project Coordinator receives direction from the Parks Manager and Landscape Architect and is responsible for facilitating and leading this diverse CIP process for the Parks Section, planning and coordinating projects from cradle to grave and acting as the liaison to the Engineering CIP Section, Neighborhood Services, City Council, Boards and Commissions, and the community for all Parks CIP projects.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation Management, Park Planning, Urban or Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Construction or related field. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Experience: Three (3) or more years of experience in parks planning or parks project development. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Working knowledge of project management software is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Essential Functions: Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Participate in the overall planning and development of the parks’ Capital Improvement Plan;
Forecast, plan, and prioritize construction/renovation projects and equipment replacement;
Provide capital improvement and operating budget estimates for park related projects;
Coordinate with our Engineering/Capital Improvement Program Section on the planning, design, procurement and project management aspects of major park capital improvement projects;
Review and prepare scope, specifications, and addendums to various procurement RFPs/bids/quotes related to capital improvement program projects;
Review plans, specifications, designs, new construction and existing facilities for compliance with ADA, and safety practices/standards;
Assist construction inspectors with interpretation of plans and resolution of problems during construction;
Conduct field visits, inspections and on-site meetings as necessary to verify compliance with City of Tempe standards, codes, ordinances and approved drawings and specifications;
Obtain quotes from vendors, submit requisitions, and coordinate equipment and material installation, and contracting services;
Coordinate and administer professional services contracts, payments, grant reimbursements, and other required documentation;
Work with the City’s Neighborhood Services section and other city staff to coordinate and conduct public/neighborhood presentations, and seek input, feedback, and consensus building on capital projects;
Address and resolve neighborhood complaints, concerns, or inquiries related to Park’s capital improvement programs or activities;
Prepare concise, clear and accurate reports for staff, City Council, commissions, committees and boards; track, monitor and report on individual and collective capital improvement projects;
Perform related duties as assigned.
