The Coordinator will be a dynamic and visionary leader of a comprehensive, accelerated effort to position Averett University as a respected and recognized Club Intramural and Recreation Program.
The Coordinator will oversee all aspects of Club Sports, Intramurals and Recreation development and operation.
The coordinator will oversee all aspects of a Varsity eSports program.
The coordinator will help in both recruitment and retention of students to Averett University though existing programs and through building new programs and pipelines.
The Coordinator will develop the program in a manner that is consistent with and advances the Averett 2020 Strategic Plan and advise the Director of Athletics.
This position reports to the Director of Athletics. This position will be considered a mid-level manager with supervisory and oversight of full- and part- time employees and students. This position will require collaboration with a wide range of mid-level managers in other units.
Primary Responsibilities •Serves as an effective written and oral communicator across a broad spectrum of internal and external constituents. •Oversee people: manage and guide coaches, staff, student-workers and leaders •Highly organized: Be able to multi-task and stay organized within each facet of this position •Plan, direct and supervise all aspects of Club Sports (including eSports and Cheerleading), Intramural Programs and Recreation. •Oversee club sports coaches to ensure recruitment and retention goals are met. •Work with the Director of Athletics to propose new club programs that could benefit the university. •Responsible for club team, intramural and recreation budget, policy development, and safety/ risk management. •Maintain an up-to-date statistical participation data for annual reporting; •Develop and implement and ongoing, program specific assessment plan. •Responsible for enforcing and supporting the disciplinary process in regards to conduct and eligibility rulings. •Develop and stay up-to-update with new rules, rule applications and officiating mechanics. •Recruits, hire, train and supervise and evaluate student support staff including student officials. •Develop and revise program events, tournaments and leagues to provide an inclusive program for all Averett University students, as well as faculty/staff. •Responsible for maintaining facility requests and scheduling. Oversight of Carrington Gym •Create Club Sports, Intramural and Recreation activity schedules which include weekday, evening leagues, and weekend events.
Secondary Responsibilities •Develop and implement intentional programs, services and activities that meet the unique needs of all Averett student populations. •The use of online program management software. •Assist in developing and maintaining the Club Sports, Intramural and Recreation webpage. •Maintain and promote the marketing and promotions of Club Sports, Intramurals and Recreational activities. •Emphasize diversity in all aspects of Club Sports, Intramurals and Recreation activities. •Encompass strong customer and staff relations.
Travel and ADA-related requirements. -The position requires you to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, speak with clarity and have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities, or be able to perform these actions with reasonable accommodations provided. -The employee may occasionally be required to move items weighing up to 25 pounds. -The employee may work irregular hours, nights, and weekends. -Some travel may be required, within Danville area, the region, and nationally.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum of one year of professional experience in the administration and supervision of intramural sports/ or recreational program.
Experience in the use of online program management software (IMLeagues.com)
A comprehensive understanding of university Club, Intramural and Recreational Sports operations and services.
Experience in supervision of staff
Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as playing and practice seasons schedules dictate
Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in support and an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Evidence of leadership experience and/or commitment to student learning and development
