The Office of Campus Recreation, a department within the Division of Student Affairs at West Chester University, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Campus Recreation. This is a full-time, twelve-month management position with full benefits.
The Director of Campus Recreation provides professional leadership, oversight and management for industry-standard, outcomes-based, vibrant recreation programs through effective management of resources, fiscal processes, daily operations, functional area leadership, and management of affiliated risks. The successful candidate will meet the recreation needs of the university community through a comprehensive campus recreation program.
The position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs for Identity, Health and Wellness.
Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of all campus recreation programs provided by the Department in order to assess student satisfaction and needs.
Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates four full-time recreation professionals (assistant director for club sports, assistant director for fitness programs and management, assistant director for outdoor adventure pursuits, assistant director for intramural sports) and a full time support staff person.
Provides expectations for professional staff regarding their personal and professional goal setting and development, as well as creating a team among the staff.
Oversight responsibility for a paraprofessional staff that includes 5 graduate assistants, and approximately 180 student employees, including hiring, training, supervising and evaluating.
Manages all aspects of the Student Recreation Center, an approximately 73,000 square foot facility, as well as Ehinger Gymnasium.
Manages major purchases of fitness equipment, facility renovations, and future space allocation projects.
Develops and maintains working relationship with Custodial Services Management and Facilities Staff.
Implements operational policies and procedures as they apply to the various campus recreation program components.
Coordinate closely with the Athletic Department regarding shared use of facilities (both indoor and outdoor spaces) in order to maximize the opportunities for intramurals, club sports and informal recreation.
Works collaboratively with other offices within the Division of Student Affairs and academic departments within the University, such as Student Leadership and Involvement, Student Health and Wellness, Counseling Center, Dowdy Multicultural Center, Student Conduct, Kinesiology and Health.
Provides leadership to professional staff with our alignment with the University and Divisional Strategic Plans.
Provides leadership toward developing and implementing a departmental Mission, Vision, and Values that support the University and the Division.
Manages all fiscal affairs for the Department, including developing and monitoring a University Auxiliary Budget, as well as a Student Services Inc. (SSI) budget for club sports. Insures that collections of all fees are in accordance with University and SSI financial guidelines.
Compiles data and shares departmental information as requested; participates in processes such as periodic Program Reviews, etc.
Serves on numerous University Committees and/or Project Teams developing and implementing policies and programs.
Performs special assignments and other duties as directed by the Assistant Vice President for Identity, Health and Wellness.
Master's degree in Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, Sports Management, Athletic or Public Administration, or related field required.
Five years' experience managing a multi-faceted university campus recreation program or student recreation facility.
Five years' experience supervising full time professional recreation staff.
CPR/AED and First Aid
NIRSA current professional membership
Doctoral degree preferred.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Salary range is $60,415 - $80,553, depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits package for self and dependents. Applicants must successfully complete interview process to be considered as a finalist.
