The City of Kirksville is seeking to fill a NEWLY CREATED Parks and Recreation Director (Director) position made possible through overwhelming citizen support of a Parks and Recreation sales tax. Kirksville is located in Northeast Missouri and serves as the county seat of Adair County. Kirksville is also the regional hub for education, employment, community and recreational opportunities. We are a progressive community interested in meeting the wants and needs of our citizens through a more robust parks and recreation program.
The Director will work with citizen committees, City Manager and City Council to insure the proposed offerings outlined prior to the vote on the sales tax are moved forward with immediate attention toward the plans and subsequent construction of a new aquatic facility, the repurposing of the existing aquatic facility, the maintenance and upkeep of 11 parks (including a baseball/softball complex, playgrounds, skate park, hike/bike trails, and wading pools), covering over 2,000 acres.
The ideal candidate will be a team-player, a self-starter, and a community advocate willing to foster recreational partnerships throughout the community.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Park Management, Public Administration, Leisure Services or a closely related field plus at least three years of progressive supervisory and administrative professional experience in municipal recreation and parks management is required.
