The City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts and Recreation Department is searching for the Manager of "The Epic", a sports, health and arts center. This is part of over a $150,000,000 park project which includes "The Summit" - America's First Baby Boomer Facility, "Epic Waters" indoor water park, PlayGrand Adventures, Texas' largest all-inclusive public playground, and the Epic Amphitheater. "The Epic" slated to open late 2017 will provide a stunningly unique list of attractions, including: basketball gym, indoor futsal court, adventure trail, radio station, recording studio, Artist-in-Residence loft, theater, pool, party rooms, and one of the most comprehensive health areas in a public recreation center.
The city is looking for an innovative manager who can provide positive leadership over this center, with an emphasis on business operations, customer service, and able to bring unique and out-of-the-box thinking along with revenue production. "The Epic" Manager will be on hand as the rest of the diverse staff is selected. All the requirements are listed below.
This position is in a NRPA Gold Medal winning department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Plans, directs and supervises operational and financial components of The Epic. Develops and effectively administers and manages operational and capital budgets to include revenue generation, operational costs, and cost recovery metrics.
Develops and implements programming, advertising, marketing and promotional plans/strategies for The Epic. Provides public relations by managing activities with internal staff and external agencies. Markets the facility by attending various meetings and networking in the business community. Provides public education by creating and implementing marketing plans; creating advertising campaigns; coordinating activities with in-house marketing staff.
Implements effective short-term and long-term operational and financial plans and goals for The Epic. Strategically plans and manages all functional areas to ensure projects are completed and within budget.
Initiates and maintains effective relationships with community and civic groups, corporate groups, and third party managing agents/partners of Grand Central. Interacts with various levels of employees, management, city staff, as well as ensuring positive relationships with vendors and contractors.
Administration of personnel functions to include supervising personnel, evaluating work performance; realigning work and staffing assignments as needed; administering human resource policies and procedures; making hiring and disciplinary decisions.
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Business, Marketing or related field and three years of experience, including two years of supervisory/management experience in a recreation or fitness center.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications preferred.
ABILITY TO PERFORM:
Supervisory/Organizational Control: Work requires managing and monitoring work performance by directing subordinate supervisors or administrators, including making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, and realigning work and staffing assignments, as needed.
Human Relations: Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
Managerial: Receives Limited Direction: Within this position, the employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. The assignment may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is reviewed periodically.
Complexity: Work is governed by broad instructions, objectives and policies. Requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent analytical and evaluative judgment.
