Since 1977 the Sterling Community Center has been serving citizens with a variety of programs, classes and activities, as well as trips, summer camps, and special events for a diverse population from preschool age through seniors. As the Assistant Manager you will supervise staff and manage center operations in the absence of the Center Manager. Your administrative skills will be used to oversee and supervise facility customers, recruit, interview and recommend for hire all fee class instructors and supervise their performance, as well as manage automated tracking and reporting of registrations, payments and budgets. You will use your creativity and marketing skills to develop and implement effective programming for the Center, ensuring quality and diverse programs, and create marketing materials to promote programs and special events. With a customer service focus you will resolve customer issues, answer questions and handle customer concerns. Light maintenance tasks, such as room set up and clean-up are required. Work schedule varies and includes evenings & weekends to meet facility needs.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education or related field. Two years’ experience in community and group recreational activities, including six months supervisory experience required. Virginia state licensing requires 6 months experience supervising children during recreational or educational activities. Valid Driver’s License required. Certification in First Aid, CPR for adult, infant and child and negative TB test result required prior to beginning work. Membership in the Virginia Recreation and Park Society professional organization is beneficial to the position. Membership in the National Association for the Education of Young Children is beneficial to the position. Criminal background, Child Protective Services (CPS) checks, credit history and DMV check are required.
