The Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds is currently seeking swim instructors and lifeguards to join our Staten Island aquatics staff for summer 2017. Lifeguard are required to provide supervision for our three swimming pools and ensure a safe environment at the pool complex, all-the-while ensuring that the more than 1200 campers and counselors who swim daily do so safely.
Swim instructors will be required to teach swim according to the Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy curriculum and SwimRight method. HKC provides the training!
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Follow curriculum to teach swimming skills appropriate to age and swim levels
Evaluate aquatics abilities of campers and report on them appropriately.
Supervise and guard all swim activities to help prevent and manage injuries.
Provide rescues as needed
Understand the appropriate responses to changes in water or weather conditions affecting pool activities.
Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures while at the pools
Conduct daily check of the pools and pool deck for safety, cleanliness and good repair
Assist in checking chemical levels
Assist in ensuring pools are cleaned
Assist in ensuring pool equipment is set up and stored properly.
Current Lifeguard certification
Current CPR certification
Current First Aid certification
Comfortable working with children
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to HKC operations.
Ability to work on a team and work well with others
Ability to spend the entire day outdoors, under the sun.
Home to 14 independently run JCC day camps, the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, is a small Jewish non-profit, that manages and operates three facilities located in Long Island, Rockland County and Staten Island. Our mission is to enhance the camp experience and provide a safe environment for the campers and counselors who call our grounds home. On any given summer day we welcome more than 5000 campers... and camp staff through our gates. As a seasonal organization, HKC hires 200+ seasonal workers to provide lifeguarding, swim instruction, first-aid care, maintenance, housekeeping and security to ensure we can carry out mission and meet the needs of the camps who camp at HKC.
