This is a responsible supervisory position overseeing the daily operations of the Goodman Pool, 3 Splash Parks and 10 Beaches. The incumbent in this position will lead a team of Aquatics Supervisors, Lifeguards and Attendants in order to meet the objectives of the City of Madison Parks Division's Aquatics program. This individual is responsible for staff's adherence to strict cash handling and water safety protocols. Under the general supervision of the Parks Weekend Supervisor, the Aquatics Lead Supervisor will exercise judgment and discretion in the implementation of services recommended by senior management.
Hours Hours of work vary based on seasonal needs. During the peak season of May and September the Aquatics Lead Supervisor will work between 30 and 40 hours weekly. Hours worked in preparation for the summer season and season closing will be reduced.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will direct the daily operations of the City of Madison Parks Division's Aquatics Program.
Working within management guidelines, the Aquatics Lead Supervisor will oversee the work of subordinate Aquatics Supervisors and ensure that they are meeting their objectives.
Review and implement staff training by position and oversee the in-service ongoing training program.
Conduct discipline of subordinate staff in accordance with established disciplinary processes. Monitor facility safety; oversee the conduction of chemical testing and ensure that the facilities meet City of Madison and State of Wisconsin standards.
Serve as the point of contact for the American Red Cross, conduct Red Cross certification classes and ensure that aquatics trainings meet Red Cross Standards.
Establish supply inventory and ensure that all facilities are adequately supplied.
Prepare aquatics related reports as outlined in memorandums of understanding with partners. Administer facility maintenance plans and communicate regularly with facilities maintenance section to ensure that aquatic facilities are properly maintained as safe environments for recreation.
Oversee concessions and admissions programs, ensuring staff accountability for loss controls and proper cash handling procedures are followed.
Oversee the review of protocol manuals and develop standard operating procedures for safe and efficient pool operations.
Three years experience with aquatics programming, which should include progressive levels of responsibility.
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification as of May 15, 2017
Lifeguard Instructor certification.
Desired but not required
Valid Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator certification.
Water Safety Instructor certification

If an applicant does not possess the experience listed above, HR will review the application materials to determine if the applicant possesses the following equivalent experience:
Four years in applying the following:
Aquatics related American Red Cross Standards.
Two years in applying the following:
Aquatics facility safety principals, pool operation and facility maintenance principals.
Cash handling procedures and the ability to use computer software applicable to the duties of the position.
Familiarity with the following:
Related business administration theories, practices, procedures and techniques pertinent to recreational programs.
Identifying safety situations and determining appropriate course of action.
Calmly responding to emergencies and coordinating the activities of others during emergencies.
