The National Recreation & Park Association is actively recruiting to fill the position of Associate Editor for the award winning magazine Parks & Recreation - the official publication of NRPA.
This is a great opportunity to work in the influential field of parks, recreation, and conservation. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-volume, and creative atmosphere where multi-tasking and excellent interpersonal skills are essential. While the position requires independent, self-starting skills, the Associate Editor will work closely with the Editorial Director and Managing Editor to ensure timely and accurate content. S(he) will have the ability to develop editorial concepts, generate story ideas, work with and source freelance journalists who know the terrain, copy-edit through revisions until copy is complete, and places high personal value on having a career with an organization that makes a difference!
Writing – Researching and writing monthly features, departments, and sections. Additional writing may include special sections and supplements.
Editing – Preparing text for accuracy, grammar, clarity, and style for the print, flipbook, and web editions of the magazine as well as special sections and supplements.
Research – Locating sources of information for evaluating viability of potential topics, for articles to be written, and for vetting articles submitted by outside sources. This function also includes photo and art research for illustrating print and online editions.
Digital – Oversees the digital version and web editions of the magazine. Also develops and produces content for magazine and NRPA-related blogs, Facebook, Tweets, and other online needs.
