Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Typically leads or supervises other staff or students.
Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Ropes and Youth Programs, the Coordinator's primary responsibilities include: assist in the daily operations of the Youth Program by effective day to day supervision and implementation of services and programs; assist with training, supervision and management of Youth Program staff; coordinator will direct, develop and administer a comprehensive youth activities program for children with all abilities. Coordinator will also help in the program planning and create operational manuals. The Youth Program Coordinator contributes to the department and program goals by managing the day to day operations and assisting the Assistant Director with all other aspects of the program portfolio. The Coordinator works collaboratively with all Recreation staff and other UCR departments such as Risk Management to ensure safe and effective programming. The Coordinator will also assist in developing relationships with other local universities and agencies to develop best practices.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Master's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
Valid Driver License
Red Cross CPR.
Standard First Aid Training Certification.
Educational Condition Requirements
Completion of Camp Director Certificate (American Camp Association or similar) within 12 months of start date.
Develops, schedules and makes programmatic and budget recommendations for highly diverse and complex programs and events. Performs short and long term planning for recreational program(s) and/or activities.
Assists in creating and establishing the Youth Program designed to achieve the 2020 Campus vision and goal.
Selects, supervises and evaluates student employees, student officials and referees. Assists in development and implementation of comprehensive student employee training program.
Student staff supervision including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluations and feedback, approving time sheets, and following disciplinary processes for student and volunteer staff. Indirect supervision of independent contractors. Development and engagement of student staff .
Coordinates a variety of social, cultural, recreational and physical activities that are offered on a short-term or intermittent basis.
Areas of oversight include activity programming such as, but not limited to, basketball, flag football, swimming, dance, soccer, tennis, martial arts and fine arts. Also offer a comprehensive slate of youth educational programs including collaboration with academic units.
Has overall responsibility for equipment, facilities and budget for a large operational program. Coordinates all facility usage.
Assists the Assistant Director to develop and monitor budget, create contracts, invoices, collect payments and maintain records for all participants. Order and supervise procurement of supplies and equipment to ensure quality and safety of participants and staff. Might be expected to drive university vehicles.
Proposes updates/revisions to standard operating procedures and guidelines. Conducts periodic reviews of historical and statistical records and standings.
Assist in the development of standard operating procedures and guidelines.
Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement.
Provide excellent customer service to customers and potential customers, resolve issues and conflicts effectively and efficiently.
Enforces program policies and procedures. Conducts ongoing evaluation of recreational programs to ensure compliance with university and program objectives.
Coordinates professional and student staff to develop and implement publicity and promotional programs. Supports design, maintenance and ongoing use of comprehensive website for all program participants.
Supports and encourages staff to attend conferences for professional growth and bring back new ideas.
Researches, develops and implements activity-specific risk management guidelines for all programs.
Implement and maintain a comprehensive risk management for the program including policies and procedures, emergency procedures, safety training, program documentation such as operation manuals, liability waivers, accident reports, incident reports and needs assessments. Will include use of external software like CampDoc

Ability to drive and provide transportation for students to schools and event sites.
