The purpose of this job is to plan, implement, manage, and evaluate activities and services for the assigned division within the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency (CRPA). Under limited direction, guides and leads the assigned division of CRPA, provides general oversight and direction to staff in the development, implementation, management and evaluation of all programs, operations and functions; serves and contributes as a member of the CRPA leadership team and performs related duties as needed or required to meet the needs of the Agency and the community.
Directs a team which plans, organizes, and implements recreational and special events programs including children, teen, and adult activities; Develops plans and organizes special and holiday events; Handles, manages recreation programs and evaluates services; Plans and directs age appropriate recreation for special population persons and senior adults; Works directly with individuals participating in the programs; Provides leadership for major community-wide events. May include soliciting sponsorship funds for particular events; Prepares publicity materials relating to activities and special events; Develops, supervises and promotes diverse recreational programs, activities and events for all ages and abilities; Responsible for the following program areas: instructional programs, facility rentals, special events, playgrounds, summer day camps, community center operations, fitness facility health and fitness programs, and related Agency services.
Oversees the management of the Cherokee County Aquatic Center (CCAC). Indirectly oversees management of all aquatic areas; including but not limited to hiring aquatic staff, aquatic programming, and center operations. Works with the Aquatics Manager to maintain the CCAC budget and prepares related reports.
Analyzes and maintains information on current trends in recreational programs, activities, and events. Prepares periodic and special reports of activities.
Supervises or performs necessary preparation of recreational areas and ensures availability of needed equipment and supplies at community centers and neighborhood parks. Where appropriate, develops, manages, and administers budgets using proper accounting procedures and practices.
Serves as Agency liaison to assigned communities, boards, advisory groups.
Possesses a number of technical skills and knowledge in a wide range of recreational, health and wellness activities for all ages.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervising staff, managing division facilities, master planning, managing marketing and fund raising, visiting work units, preparing and managing the budget, planning and developing goals and objectives, managing and promoting programs and services, serving as liaison for the division's non-profit boards/committees, coordinating and reporting on program data collected, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in a recreation administration or a related field with five years of related administration experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess three years of progressive responsible leadership and management experience with a performance record of effective business, management, leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to provide strategic leadership, implement sound business practices, build effective partnerships with constituencies, model a collaborative/respect-based supervisory style, and to develop, mentor and hold accountable employees and supervisors.
Certification as CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional) or CPRE (Certified Parks and Recreation Executive) is preferred. Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Must possess a valid GA driver’s license.
