The Turner-Roberts Recreation Center offers recreational and leisure opportunities for Northeast area residents. Programs include: cultural arts, sports, community/family events, life skills, recreation leagues and numerous classes. Inclusive programs for youth with special needs are also offered.
The purpose of this position is to manage the daily operations of the Turner Roberts Recreation Center. Other relevant duties include, but not limited to:
• Responsible for the managing, coaching, evaluating, and counseling of assigned personnel. • Acting as Departmental Liaison for neighborhood associations; and industry/user groups, including representing Department at community meetings. • Assists with and monitors budgets; and recommends capital expenditures. • Identifies needs for program and new program changes. • Investigates and responds to complaints with other Managers, employees and the general public. • Ensures compliance with City of Austin-Parks & Recreation Department policies, procedures and with safety protocols. • Develops and conducts special training programs. • Coordinates schedules and activities between groups.
Preferred Education and Certifications in the following :
• Certified Parks and Recreation Professional • Prefer graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in Recreation, Administration or related Field.
Preferred Experience in the following :
• Five (5) years or more of experience coordinating programs specifically with Youth (5 – 12 yrs. of age), Teens (13 – 18 yrs. Of age), Adults and Senior Adults in a professional recreational setting. • Five (5) years or more of supervisory or lead capacity, including managing, coaching and training personnel. • Two (2) years or more of experience investigating and responding to complaints with other Managers, employees and the general public. • Two (2) years or more experience working with volunteers and/or volunteer groups. • Two (2) years or more experience in managing fiscal planning and an operational budget for an assigned work area. • Two (2) years or more experience in managing public relations for an employer, including acting as a liaison for the employer between different organizational units, communities and stakeholders. • Proficiency in RecTrac or other recreation/database management software program. • Bilingual in English/Spanish. • Intermediate level or above in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point and Outlook.
Additional Salary Information: $22.83 – $28.39 per hour
