This is temporary professional level work assisting with the management of waterfront park(s) and its related facilities. Targeting May thru August but can be flexible depending on schedule and park activities, max is 20weeks.
Employees in this class are responsible for assisting with the management of waterfront parks and their related facilities with recreational and educational programs including, but not limited to: sailing, kayaking, nature tours, and site rentals. Depending on staffing levels, an employee in this classification may function as a supervisor responsible for the accomplishment of established recreational, educational, and maintenance goals and objectives. Work emphasis is placed on recreational, educational, and park maintenance management, revenue producing activities, and program development and administration. The positions under this class require some responsible independence of action and latitude for problem solving in accordance with departmental policies. Employees will be assigned to assist with managing the operations of parks and related facilities which are located throughout the community, away from the departmental offices. This job is not of a routine, clerical, or ministerial nature.
Some supervision may be exercised over parks and recreation personnel engaged in facility maintenance and recreational and educational programming. Supervision is received from the Waterfront Park Manager or designee who reviews work for achievement of objectives through inspections, personal conferences, or written reports.
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: assisting with the assignment and reviewing some of the work of subordinate park maintenance and recreation staff engaged in programs consisting of recreational activities, organized athletic events, games, instructional classes and facility maintenance; assisting with the coordination of activities of crews engaged in landscape maintenance procedures such as pruning, transplanting or large plant materials or tree removal; reviewing work orders for repair of equipment or facilities; evaluating some of the needs for renovation or replacement of facilities or equipment; assisting with the coordination of diversified program events in waterfront park; may assist with the directing of subordinate staff engaged in organizing recreational and competitive team sports activities; assisting with the scheduling special events and acting as a liaison between City and event representatives during planning, execution, and post event phases; providing assistance with semi-difficult or unusual problems; assisting with the coordination of safety and energy conservation programs; assisting with the organization and supervision of the recreational and educational programs to satisfy community interests and needs, including, but not limited to: assisting with the conduction of tournaments in various athletic events; assisting with the scheduling events for sailing regattas and water sport activities; assisting with the participation on the rules committee work; and handling publicity and awards to promote interest and participation; assisting with the inspections parks, assisting with the maintenance needs and supervises equipment maintenance procedures; assistant with the preparation of reports and assisting by monitoring the budget expenditures; in the absence of assigned personnel, performs maintenance and recreation functions as required; and performing related work as required.
A minimum of 60 college credits and some (6 months - 2 years) experience coordinating recreational activities. Additionally, the following certificates must be valid at time of application and maintained current throughout employment: First Aid and CPR/AED issued by the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized certifying agency. A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and maintained valid throughout employment. Certifications in the instruction of boating and/or sailing are highly desirable. Experience coordinating waterfront, or aquatics activities is preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma.

Additional Salary Information: this is a 20week position and the rate is hourly.
