Performs recreation work in managing the operations of assigned sports programs, leagues and services for the county. The work involves planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating sports programs, instructional classes, and special events for the community. Position is responsible for sports leagues, activities, special events, and recreational learning programs. Overall goals are set and the worker determines the specific tasks and assignments to be performed, independently handling new, unusual problems and deviations encountered in the work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the management of the operations of multiple sports leagues, programs and activities. Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates activities, special events, sports leagues and class programs for all persons of all ages. Prepares and administers program budget; maintains records and prepares reports. Coordinate facility scheduling with Multi Center Coordinators, Community Centers Supervisor, Park Managers, Parks Services Specialist, and Charles County Public School staff. Recommends for hire, trains and coordinates assigned personnel in accordance with county personnel policies and procedures. Develops and maintains positive relationship with school staff, independent league organizations, official/referee associations, professional organizations, volunteers, and the community. Submit schedules requests for use of facilities, monitors usage and prepares calendars. Plans, develops and distributes promotional information on sports programs. Recruits, oversees, trains and schedules volunteers. Other Duties Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of-- Effective methods and techniques of sports league development including league format, team rosters, coaching, season scheduling, tournaments, and rules of the game. PC operations and associated software Effective methods of outreach and marketing Ability to-- Plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate sports leagues, instructional classes, programs, camps, and special events Perform administrative functions including budget, purchasing, facility management and personnel Train and supervise part time staff and volunteers Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Evaluate safety issues and promote positive safe practices to minimize risks associated with sports Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledges, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or Education: Bachelors Degree in recreation or related field. Experience: Three years of experience in recreation management or related filed. The work is mostly sedentary with frequent periods of walking and standing. Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs; bend and crouch, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards.
