This position is responsible for all youth and intergenerational recreation programs, as well as Parks and Recreation sponsored special events. Duties include the conception, planning and implementation of activities to include sports, fitness, dance, arts and crafts and personal enrichment. This position reports to the Deputy Parks and Recreation Director and is responsible for the direct oversight of contract instructors and volunteers. The position entails frequent internal and external contacts that require considerable public relations skills. Contacts involve non-routine problems and require in-depth discussion and/or persuasion in order to gain concurrence or resolve problems. There is direct interactions with customers, the general public and other departments of the City and other governmental agencies.
Recreational Programming. Plans, promotes and implements recreation programs and activities for youth (birth - age 16). Recruits, hires, trains and evaluates contract instructors. Conducts seasonal program evaluations.
Program Management. Maintains records and prepares reports, including program attendance reports, quarterly class reports and statistical reports from special events. Prepares purchase orders, requisitions, check requests and codes bills and submits them for payment.
Public Relations. Cooperates and communicates regularly with other agencies and service providers to provide programs to the residents of the City of Shawnee. Maintains contact with the general public in person, via phone and written correspondence.
Birthday Party Program. Assists the Aquatics Programmer with the implantation of the birthday party program at the aquatic centers.
Special Events. Coordinates the planning and implementation of Parks and Recreation special events such as The Royal Ball, PARKED Food Truck event and the Tour de Shawnee.
Sponsorships. Assists with the annual development of sponsorship packages for special events to offset expenses and to provide free community events for the residents of Shawnee
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Park and Recreation, Leisure Management or related field
Minimum of 2-3 years related work experience
This exempt position will frequently require attendance at activities and events that may occur in the morning, evening, and on weekends and holidays
