Directs recreation activities and operations in the park and specific operations such as law enforcement and snow removal in the assigned region surrounding the park. Ensures excellent customer service is provided to all visitors. Manages the lands and facilities of assigned area for the provision of outdoor recreational opportunities for the public, including overseeing the regular maintenance of grounds and facilities. Recruits, hires, trains and supervises staff. Develops, coordinates, and monitors budgetary and fiscal operations; establishes goals and priorities such as park development, maintenance, and human resources planning.
Directs all activities of an MWCD lake park and assigned areas. Plans and directs park operations including multi-use trails, campgrounds, nature centers, swimming beaches, picnic shelters, docks, self-operations such as camp stores and boat rental areas. Manages park staff, including interviewing, training, disciplining or making recommendations for same. Conducts performance reviews, provides training and technical assistance, assesses overall scheduling needs of operation and assigns and prepares work schedules or delegates same. Evaluates work to be accomplished and communicates assignments to subordinate staff. Ensures compliance with MWCD personnel, safety and operational policies. Ensures compliance with PERRP (Public Employer Risk Reduction Program), FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), Minor Labor Laws, as well as other any other federal and state regulations that apply.
*Oversees, and participates in law enforcement activities (as certification allows); provides for security and control of facilities. Assists visitors with routine inquiries, first aid, vehicle assistance, and emergency assistance. Enforces MWCD park rules and regulations, operational policies, campground rules and guidelines, federal and state laws. Serves as a law enforcement official. Patrols park and surrounding areas, gives warnings, issues citations, makes arrests coordinates investigations and testifies in court.

An associate degree in parks and recreation management, natural resources management, or a related degree with three (3) years of successful assistant park manager experience or related work experience is required. A bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management, natural resources management, business administration or related degree with two (2) years of successful assistant park manager experience or related work experience is preferred. Management and/or supervisory experience are generally required as well as significant experience in park and/or recreation operations. Successful experience as an Assistant Park Manager with an MWCD park is highly desirable. Strong people skills, particularly in dealing with the public and/or “guests,” are required. Knowledge of and experience with the park maintenance operations and computer skills including Microsoft office software is essential. Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license. Knowledge of proper landscaping and grounds keeping techniques and related experience are desirable. Ohio Peace Officer’s Certification is beneficial but not required, however, ability to obtain a valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification may be required after employment/appointment to position.
