The University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Sports Turf Manager - Mizzou Sports Park. This position will assist in the management of athletic competition playing fields and turf surfaces within the Mizzou Sport Park. Duties to include: demonstrate, instruct and review turf maintenance methods to include mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing, application of pesticides and herbicides, aerating, renovating and irrigating;demonstrate, instruct and review athletic fields for practice and competition, to include lining fields, setting up fields to SEC and NCAA requirements, painting logos, filling divots, and creating safe field conditions; analyze and diagnose pesticide, fungicide and herbicide problems and needs and prescribe proper control, calibrate equipment and oversee safe application; demonstrate, instruct and review landscape maintenance methods to include pruning, shaping, trimming and removal of shrubs and trees, planting and maintaining annual or perennial flowers and ground covers; make field use decisions regarding scheduling and execution of work, employee assignments, equipment and material selection; perform and demonstrate routine maintenance of assigned equipment correctly and on schedule; report equipment or safety defects; perform and demonstrate irrigation systems maintenance and operations; assist with and guide grounds personnel in miscellaneous grounds maintenance activities including leaf, debris and litter removal and landscape bed maintenance; performs other related duties or responsibilities as assigned.
An Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education and at least three years of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting, bending, standing for long periods of time, climbing and/or walking; must have a valid driver's license and be insurable. Preferred Qualifications to include Certified Missouri pesticide applicators license or ability to obtain within six months; one year experience working on collegiate or professional sports fields and membership in STMA.
